Court-Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
For more than 25 years, the national philanthropy of Kappa Alpha Theta and Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation has been Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). CASA was created by a juvenile court judge in 1977 to ensure that the abuse and neglect suffered by some children at home does not continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the judicial system. CASA programs are known by many names and are sometimes referred to as Guardian Ad Litem or ProKids.
Today, CASA is one of the fastest-growing community service projects in the country. CASA volunteers are ordinary citizens recruited from the community and trained to speak for abused and neglected children in court. Volunteers appear in court with attorneys and social workers to recommend to the judge what is best for the child’s future, thus becoming their voice in court.
Both college and alumnae chapters host events throughout the year to support their state and local CASA organizations. We give to CASA in many ways: as thoughtful advocates, committed volunteers and generous donors. As individuals and as a fraternity, we say: “I am a Theta. I am for the child.”

Theta Foundation
Founded in 1960, Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational tax-exempt organization. Theta Foundation’s mission is to secure and manage resources for the educational, leadership, and philanthropic programs of the Fraternity and for the scholastic, professional, and service pursuits of its members to help them reach their fullest potential and make a difference in the world.
Awarding more than $1.1 million annually, Theta Foundation stands as a pillar of support for Thetas and a partner in the Fraternity’s educational and philanthropic efforts. Created by Thetas for Thetas, Theta Foundation is dedicated to partnering with individuals and college and alumnae chapters for fundraising efforts to support Thetas with scholarships, non-degree educational and leadership grants, and the Fraternity’s educational and leadership programs.
Theta Foundation supports individual members and chapters by:
Providing scholarships to collegians and alumnae for academic expenses, including tuition, books, and course-related fees for undergraduate and graduate degree programs
Providing grants to individuals and chapters for non-degree, educational, leadership, and service-learning opportunities
Supporting Fraternity programs that impact all Thetas, such as the ELC program, alcohol education and awareness, Sisters Supporting Sisters, Theta Service trip, and more
Theta Foundation also provides resources to individuals and chapters to support Theta by:
Providing support for fundraising efforts that support scholarship, grant, and Fraternity programs
Providing opportunities to support philanthropic initiatives close to Thetas’ hearts, such as a quarterly grant to National CASA
Providing information about establishing endowed scholarships and grants to benefit members in the future
Conducting fundraising efforts and providing information about Theta Foundation’s current fundraising initiatives and priorities

Friendship Fund
Since it was established in 1926, the Friendship Fund has been a tangible demonstration of the love and concern we feel for one another. It is based on a beautiful, timeless idea—sisters reaching out to sisters. The Friendship Fund provides gifts to Thetas experiencing extreme financial hardship due to serious or terminal illness, job loss, natural disaster, and other devastating occurrences. One very important aspect of the Fund is the secrecy surrounding the giving of gifts. Two members write on the behalf of a sister, and the Friendship Fund committee determines the award amount. The requesters remain anonymous, and all records are confidential.
Through the Friendship Fund, we reaffirm our belief that Kappa Alpha Theta is larger than ourselves and that what we give to one another comes full circle.
Traditionally, contributions to the Friendship Fund are made through Founders Day gifts, but donations are welcome at any time during the year. The suggested contribution is $1 for each year of membership.
